Grade 5
Get ready Star Wars fans! Rouge One: A Star Wars Story is in theaters now. In art class, we used this iconic movie as inspiration to learn how to create the illusion of form. We know that shapes and drawings are flat, two-demensional, objects. What if we want our work to be more life like and realistic? How do we take that 2-D surface and make it appear more 3-D?
In painting and drawing, form must be implied. You must create the illusion of space and depth, which will trick the eye. One approach that works very well is to use different values of a color (lights and darks) to give the illusion of 3-D form. By carefully studying and applying highlights and shadows to the storm troopers body, the students produced some stunning work.
