About Me
Teaching Experience:
I am a certified teacher and hold an Instructional II certificate to teach Art, PK-12 in PA. This is my 16th year of teaching Art. I have the privilege and experience of teaching in a variety of locations and situations. I joined the Vida Charter School team in November of 2014, so this will be my 5th year teaching here at Vida.
One of the most unique experiences I previously had was teaching online via a computer through a virtual cyber school for 4 years. Instead of traveling to an actual school building, students did their studies from the comfort of their home and worked through a scheduled curriculum of live virtual classes or self paced courses. Although I didn't physically see my students, they did receive regular feedback and e-mail correspondence from me. From time to time, a student might have also needed individual tutoring which I provided to them through virtual sessions to make sure they were successful and got more one on one attention.
In addition to the online teaching, I have 7 years experience working in public schools located in Arizona, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Working with students hands on and face to face is truly a blessing and despite where or how I teach it's an honor to be able to say everyday.....I love my job!!! Teaching is and always will be my chosen profession. I love to learn from my students and I'm continuously trying to improve my skills.
Education:
In May of 2001, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Penn State University. I started my first year at the Penn State, Altoona campus but completed the remainder of my time at University Park, State College. For one semester, I also completed a 6 week summer abroad program, where I traveled and continued my studies in Ireland. Since then I have also worked on obtaining 33 credits of graduate or undergraduate courses from Virginia Commonwealth University, West Virginia University, Harrisburg Area Community College, Mansfield University, and Morningside College.
My professional hopes and dreams are to pursue a Master's degree in Art Education or Technology Education.
